About

Welcome to St Mary's

St Mary's Church is one of the oldest churches in the area, dating back to Norman times.  We are part of the Diocese of Worcester and the Greater Dudley Deanery.  The Church of England church is located in a picturesque setting at the back of The Village, Kingswinford, DY6 8AY.  We look to offer a warm welcome and hospitality to everyone.  We provide a place for the traditional activities of church: Sunday worship, weddings, christenings and funerals.

St. Mary’s Church is a grade 2* listed building, with characteristics that date back to the mid the 12th century. The Anglican church for Kingswinford is three miles west of Dudley in the West Midlands and is the older of the two churches in Kingswinford/Wall Heath, sharing its ministry with the Church of The Ascension at Wall Heath. It forms a picturesque back drop to a quiet cul-de-sac on the north side of the Dudley Road and is situated approximately ½ mile east from the main village of Kingswinford. The church stands on the south side of a large churchyard. A path cuts through the churchyard at the west end of the church and is in daily and frequent use. The foundations of the church medieval and it retains its Norman tympanum of St. Michael slaying the dragon, reset over the south west door to the South Aisle and there is a blocked round arched window opening in the west wall of the tower and round arched window on the south wall of the tower. The church sits in land of approx four and a quarter acres. The church and churchyard are well maintained by a team of volunteers. The churchyard is open and is currently used for burials and ashes interments.  It also includes an Eco Garden maintained by volunteers and local school children.

Kingswinford is mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086 and St. Mary's is the oldest church in the area. It has stood here for over 800 years as Kingswinford has grown from a hamlet of 100 people to a suburb of 25,000. It is a beautiful, ancient building but it is much more than that. It is here to serve the people of Kingswinford and to be a place where people can come and worship God. It is a sign that God hasn't forgotten people and represents living, serving, worshipping communities of Christians.

There is a church school at each end of the Parish.  In Kingswinford St Mary's C E Primary (VC) School is linked to our church and we work closely with the school, offering ministry and support to both children and staff, through regular assemblies and services in church throughout the year and on the school governing body.  We also work closely with the other primary schools and secondary school within our Parish.

We are open for public worship every Sunday morning at 10am..  There are also midweek services - Mon, Tues & Wed Morning 8.30am for Morning Prayer, and Tuesday morning at 10am for midweek communion.
